Freshwater Conversion Kit for Volvo Penta Marine Engines. Half System. Fits years 1999-earlier
Brand New freshwater cooling conversion kit for Volvo Penta small block chevy marine applications years 1999-earlier. This kit will fit 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L and 6.2L marine applications. This is a "half kit" (i.e. this cools the engine block only). On average, this kit will take 2-3 hours for installation. This kit comes with everything needed for installation. CONVERSION KIT FITS
1999 or earlier GM (Chevy) based V6/V8 engines lacking power steering or with power steering pump mounted low on port side of engine.
SPACE REQUIREMENT
System mounts vertically on front starboard side of engine. Fits within overall height, width and length of engine. Expansion tank 9" wide, 9" high, 5" deep mounts separately on vertical surface next to engine. In case of unforeseen installation space problems kit may be returned within 30 days for full credit.
COOLING SYSTEM TYPE
Block only. Engine block on fresh water system. Exhaust manifolds remain on raw water system.
CONVERSION KIT
Kit includes heat exchanger, heavy-duty translucent plastic expansion tank plus all other components necessary to complete conversion. Some components from engine are reused. Heat Exchanger and Brackets are finished in black. Hose clamps all stainless steel.
HEAT EXCHANGER
Shell and tube type. Specifically designed for the low cooling water flows, characteristic of sterndrive engines. All copper alloy construction made to the highest industry standards. Heavy-duty dual demountable clean out end covers. Zinc anode protection.
COOLING SYSTEM CAPACITY
Will maintain engine temperature in the 160-170 range using 160 F thermostat, included in kit. Higher temperature thermostats may be used but may result in too high oil temperature if the engine is run hard. System has capacity safety margin higher than industry standards.
HEATER SYSTEM HOOKUP
Heaters such as galley water heaters and cabin heaters are easily connected to the system by utilizing the cooling system bypass connection. Complete instructions included in kit.
INSTALLATION TIME
Approximately one hour for experienced mechanic assuming new engine and normal accessibility. Allow additional time for filling and testing. Expect a professional installer to include safety margin and charge for 2-3 hours of labor. Installation skills are not beyond those of most do-it-yourself boat owners. All components bolt on. No metal cutting involved. Some pipe thread connections. Some hose cutting.
INSTALLATION TOOLS
Minimum: screw driver, 7/8 deep socket or box wrench, 9/16 socket or box wrench, medium pipe wrench, knife, pipe dope.

For small package (parts) shipments: we will ship by whichever method you select during checkout. Free shipping options (if applicable) will be shipped via UPS or FedEx ground. Free shipping is only available to customers within the continental USA. Shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and other US territories are not eligible for free freight. International shipping options are available for our worldwide customers. We use UPS and FedEx to ship worldwide. VAT and any other customs charges are not covered by Marine Engines 4 Less. The carrier will reach out to you to collect those charges independently. Lead times on small part items are expressed in the ad. For time sensitive shipments, it is best to reach out to us to confirm availability before purchasing.
For freight item (engine) shipments: For larger and heavier shipments, LTL freight is used to ship. Shipping costs will be calculated in the shopping cart. It is imperative to put correct contact information down in the shipping details. Freight companies will often need to reach out to you to arrange an appointment, or to verify other details. Incorrect shipping details will only delay your delivery. For shipping rates outside the United States, please reach out to our sales team for shipping costs and options. The website cannot accurately calculate LTL freight shipment outside the United States. For international shipments, the freight costs do not include VAT and other duties/taxes that your respective country charges. For VAT, tax and duty estimates, please reach out to us.
Some LTL freight companies will charge more for deliveries deemed to be "limited access", residential, or require an appointment or lift gate. If you feel as though your shipment may need one of these accessoral options, please reach out to us for an accurate shipping quote.
