New Marine Engines
Our New Engines
GM Marine Engines
In addition to producing remanufactured marine engines, we also sell new GM & Mercruiser produced units, and new units that we machine, inspect, and assemble in house.
New GM engines come assembled and tested from GM. To ensure quality, we also pull every 5th GM produced unit and SIM test it in our facility. GM units are warrantied by GM. GM does not provide labor on their warranty units, however, we subsidize their warranty with a labor allotment provided by Marine Engines 4 Less should there be a warranty situation that is not deemed a manufacturer’s defect.
New Marine Engines 4 Less Units
Beginning in 2015, GM has begun to discontinue many of their marine engines. This includes the 3.0L and 4.3L in 2015, the 5.0L in 2016, and the 7.4L and 8.2L in 2022. To date (March 2023), GM only produces the Vortec 5.7L marine engine. Because of this, we began producing our own new units in 2021. These new units use DART’s performance engine blocks and are machined, assembled and tested in our facility. They are built to GM factory specifications and there will be no issues to use these units in place of GM MPI or TBI units.
Similarly, in 2023 Mercruiser’s “Quicksilver” branded engines will begin to use new DART blocks as well, as GM has discontinued and stopped providing new engines to Mercruiser.
The benefit of using our in house produced units using DART engine blocks include:
- Priority main oiling system feeds main bearings first. See Figure 1.
- Siamese cylinder bores with extra thick walls resist cracking and improve ring seal for more power (minimum .275” thick with 4.185” bore).
- Open lifter valley improves oil return to pan.
- Blind head bolt holes don’t go through to water jacket.
- Billet steel 4-bolt main bearing caps on all 5 mains.
Figure 1: Priority main oiling primes the main bearings first and then to the lifters and top end instead of top down oil priming in OEM blocks allowing for peak performance at high temperatures.

Base Engines: Our base engines are the best sellers. Base engines are comparable to basic longblocks that many in the industry provide. The difference between a longblock and base engine is that a base engine comes with some additional components, including: oil pan, valve covers, timing cover, and harmonic balancer installed on the unit. We provide base engines because, with these components installed, we can ensure that there are no oil leaks from any tinware installed. In addition, our customers find it convenient to provide their mechanic with a unit already “sealed” with the tinware.
Base engines are the perfect replacement for an engine that has failed due to an internal issue such as bearing failure, piston or piston ring failure, blown head gasket(s), etc.
Extended Base Engines: Our extended base engines are a bit more complete than our base engines. Extended base engines include additional components such as intake manifold and water pump, carburetor, ignition system, and exhaust system. These are perfect replacements for those customers that want to replace old or corroded accessories that bolt onto their engine, or, for those looking for more horsepower.
We provide several different pre-packaged “extended base engine” options. To customize an engine build, we encourage you to reach out to our sales team via email info@marineengines4less.com or by phone 1-888-364-4537.
“Drop-in” Engines: Drop-in engines are 100% drop-in ready units that we provide directly from Mercruiser. These will only replace boats using a Mercruiser sterndrive or inboard transmission. We have each of these units categorized by sterndrive type (Alpha, Bravo, Inboard) in our catalog. We encourage you to reach out to our sales team via email info@marineengines4less.com or by phone 1-888-364-453 if you have any questions regarding these engine packages, including help with finding out which package best suits your needs.
